I was scrolling, viewing people’s posts and I saw this meme which said” another day for not waking up in Maldives but we move.” I laughed then but it left me wondering why most people wish they were away from their countries or neighborhoods (well, judging from conversations I had with various people)
I kept thinking about it and got to remember a game I used to play in my mother’s phone a few years ago. The game was called Space Impact. One needed to defeat “soldiers” in one region/place before being transferred to another place/level. Each level as you may imagine was more difficult than the previous one. Enough of stories! Let me now ask you, fellow human. Do you sometimes wonder why you are a citizen of a given country and not the other way round (for instance, why are you Rwandan and not Ghanaian?) what do you think is wrong with your community? Are they hypocrites? Oh gosh, I know right. How then did you know that it was wrong? Let me tell you what I think. Your eyes see what is wrong not because you are a pessimist but because you are supposed to be an agent of change. Maybe you think that your efforts are insignificant, right? Well, that is why I hear a drop of water laughing at you. A mere drop of water made a way through the rock because of consistent efforts. Trust me, I am no motivational speaker but I would rather make one step of change at a time than complaining a whole day, week or year about something that is wrong, or only saying how things should be. You are not in Maldives or any country you dream of because you should maybe create it in your environment. You are where you are because God planted you there. Better bloom, sweetheart.
Thank you for reading up to here. Please repeat after me: I (insert your last name,) am going to be the change I want to see in my home, neighborhood and country. Instead of complaining, I will start where I am and use what I have to bring the change I want to see in the world.
