LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE

The letter of James, chapter one verse 17 reads: “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change”

I want you/us to focus on two things: what I have chosen to call the levels of goodness, and the name James had chosen to call God in this part of the scripture.

What I call levels of goodness is simple. In the ‘realm of goodness’ there are four levels: good, better, best and perfect. I may also say that those levels can also symbolize abilities or talents that people have. As you can tell or imagine, they are not equal in terms of power. You may say that good is the lower level while perfect is the higher level but thank heavens, they all originate above, from the Father of lights.

I know trees and animals, and so do you. We all have never seen a mango tree bearing passion fruits, or a cow giving birth to a hen. Every organism brings forth something of its kind. This leads us to the part we have read where of all names and nicknames God has, James had chosen to refer him to as the Father of lights when talking about gifts. Do you think it was a coincidence? I don’t think so.

I think the reason is very simple: gifts are from God so, they are “little lights” (Hello, fans of Passenger. I greet you in the name of Jesus) and light is supposed to shine. However small or big your gift may be, you should let it shine. Don’t you cover it with a cloth or a basket. Don’t you brush it off by calling it irrelevant or comparing it to other’s.

You may now say “but Nova, we don’t even have gifts or we do not even know our gifts, etc.” My answer is this: kneel to God and ask Him to reveal to you the little light He had put in your heart. As usual, He doesn’t play with words and he is always one sincere prayer away from you.

I think God wanted the letter of James to be in the Bible because He knew it would serve as a reminder for people to ‘fan their fire’ so that the mission of driving away Satan’s darkness could be accomplished for good. Its chapter one also invites us to be doers of the word and not just hearers.

Let me end this by saying that I am not kicking the ball in anyone’s court. I am just saying that the ball is in our court: mine and yours. May God bless and keep you.
