I never knew that one day I'll be talking about cooking, provided that I and cooking used to have a very complicated relationship. From a very young age, kitchen was a place I was not allowed to approach since I lived with many girls who were older than me,and they were the one to cook. Again, I was too young to approach fire. Consequently, it took me a relatively long time to know how to even strike a match! To light fire! You may think I was spoiled or what but I will tell you what it was later.

During my college years, I had to live in ghetto and the only thing I knew how to cook was rice and tea. Goodness, I was a terrible cook compared to my mates. My only secret card was that I knew how to bake some pastries. It was cool though! My job all the time was to clean and watch as my roomie cook.( Shout out, Christine) Now, when did I fall in love with cooking? To be honest, I don't know. I just found myself fond of cooking, watching cooking videos and falling in love with exploring as I cooked. Maybe it was during May 2020 that I dedicated my time to learning tricks and techniques, these and those, dos and don'ts of cooking. I have even enrolled in Vatel online cooking and hospitality programs but unfortunately, I attended one class of how to be a good waitress and then dodged!( congratulate me though. I got my certificate of participation.) It had been a wonderful journey and just like that, I became addicted to watching cooking videos and trying almost everything cooking: frying, boiling and baking. As a low-key curious lad myself, I have learned so many lessons throughout cooking and as I like to say, I'm still learning. However, I would like to share with you what spices and frying pans taught me about love and life. First of all, when in kitchen, you pay attention to security and hygiene. Again, you don't overdo yourself by showing off your chopping skills because you can end up chopping off your own fingers. You also make sure that you have what you need around you(ingredients and whatnot) and keep the rest in their respective places. In love and life, you don't overplay yourself or promise what you can't fulfill. Again, you don't need to bring someone into your past mess unless they need to know about it. Secondly, what you despise can be your greatest asset. For me, I had to learn this from plantains. I don't like plantains that much, yet, I'm a goddess when it comes to cooking it.My mama knows that too, because visitors had complimented her many times because of her daughter's plantain recipe. I mean, I have 5+ ways of cooking plantains that can make you eat it even though you could be allergic to it!( Putting on my shades, now that I just boasted.) In life, someone or something you neglect might be having what could help you shine/elevate. Lessons from plantains, oh mama mia! The last but not the least, I learned that you don't wait for a perfect moment. You take a moment and make it perfect. You don't need someone to tell you how to do things always. You got to experiment and explore, that's how insights kick in. With cooking, I learned making extraordinary things out of the ordinary. I learned the beauty of simplicity. I learned being dark and impenetrable, and falling like thunderbolt(tell me you hide your recipes without telling me, young woman.) I learned to start where I am and use what I have. I learned that cooking can be a way to express love and to bond. I learned also to say: " Please come over. I will PERSONALLY cook for you"
