THOUGH HOPE IS FRAIL, IT IS HARD TO KILL.

If you are a fan of Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, the title of this post probably reminded you of their collabo, “when you believe” a song that they sang some years ago. I like the song so very much! I am not going to lie, this song has a way to soothe someone to the extent that if I was a doctor, I would recommend people with gastric ulcers to take their medicines while listening to it! My favorite line in the whole song is “there can be miracles when you believe, though hope is frail it is hard to kill”

I remember back in 2020 when a prison warden whose name was COVID-19 showed up and jailed everyone in their homes. It was difficult to think of anything else, the future was so unpredictable than usual, and fear out-competed faith in a broad daylight! So many people got depressed, so many people got hungry…we all saw tragedy clothed in face mask and gloves. It was during that time that I realized how hope was really frail!

In life, there are times when fear forces or tempts us into signing a permanent ‘peace ‘agreement. There are days that require the speed of a snail or a tortoise to end, there are times when we think that the image of a sleeping sun or a silver moon covered in thick dark clouds is the last image our eyes will save. Sometimes, well, sometimes…we even wonder if we will ever get to be in that special someone’s arms again (blushing, blushing.)

It is so easy to hope for the best when you have good reasons to do so, I mean, when everything is going well in your life. Surprisingly, that is not when you even need hope

It is during those moments when life tastes like a territory of bread invaded by an army of fungi that one needs hope, as fragile as it might be, to keep going. It is during those moments of despair that one needs to close his or her eyes, breathe and hold on to ‘the thing with feathers’ as per Emily Dickinson.

To fish for a smile in a sea of painful tears, to trust in God or the Universe or whatever higher power you might be believing in and to make sure that you stay healthy and safe. Trust me, although hope is frail, it is hard to kill.
